Hänsel und Gretel

Studio Work: Set Design (Model, Groundplan, Section, Elevations, Props & Technical Requirements List, Reference Photos) & Costume Design (Renderings and Construction Drawings) 

Concept: A pop-up storybook, the action is set on the upturned pages of the Grimm fairy-tale. Taking inspiration from tunnel books, the stage features consecutive layers of illustrative prosceniums that can track in and out of the playing area, allowing for the space to become smaller and larger, depending on the action. The color scheme of the piece comes from the children's perception of the dreariness of Act 1 and the visual, candy-coated excitement of Act 3. Studio assignment for undergrad (UofA 2019).
